Questions at the switchboard

Is Nightjar Radio a real station?

No. Nightjar, Gullwrack Point, the Dunmore Reach and everyone in the schedule are fiction. The craft on display is real; the call letters are not.

Why is there no stream?

The board has debated a stream every year since 1999. The kettle keeps winning. The archive requests desk will happily mail you a disc copy.

Can I visit the studio?

First Saturday of each month, free, an hour, ends with the pips. Book through the visit page; cancellations are read at the top of the hour.

Can I submit a script?

Yes, via the letters desk. Anything unread by the first of the month goes to First Nights, Tuesdays at 9:30.

What does 'recorded live to wire' mean?

One session, one take, corrections appended as letters rather than edits. It is harder and we think it sounds better.

How do the pips stay accurate?

The same marine chronometer since 1961, wound by whoever arrives second.

Is the stair really from 1908?

Yes, and it is walked at full weight by policy. A careful footstep reads as a lie.
